Having spent a lot of time and money on all things MagFed, here's what I've learned:
At a minumum, having a good marker, comfortable chest rig, and a dump pouch will put you on the right path to a good time.
MARKERS:
First Strike T15:
- In my opinion, this is the king of all MagFed markers. Designed by the same company who makes the First Strike rounds, I've had zero breaks and one jam in this marker when shooting First Strikes. It can be kind of rough on roundball paint, though. I definitely recommend Valken Graffiti, as it's designed specifically for MagFed. I still get the occasional break, but that's to be expected. One of the most attractive features is that it's a direct 1:1 scale to actual AR-15's. Almost every part (except for internals) can be swapped out for actual AR-15 hardware. On my T15, I have a MagPul butt stock, Hogue rubber molded pistol grip, STNGR handguards, and various foregrips and optics, depending on how I feel like playing that day. The T15 really gives you the opportunity to make it your own, with a unique build. I find the maintenance to be very easy, with plenty of resources online to help get you started. The support community on Facebook is also very helpful. The magazines are also my favorite out of any marker I've used. Very simple to maintain and clean. If I had to say something negative about the T15, it would be that the release switch on the magazine can be very sensitive if you're not careful. I've accidentally hit it and released the paint into my mag pouch more times than I'd like!
Planet Eclipse MG100:
I'm very new to this one, but it's quickly gained a top spot in my arsenal. Ultra lightweight and very unique looking, with a cool futuristic vibe when paired with the PWR stock. At first, I was a bit put off by it's physical appearance since I definitely lean more toward military style markers, but once I got my hands on it, shot it, and customized it a bit, I was hooked! It's a low pressure system and very easy on air and extremely quiet! Just like the T15, with a bit of internet education, maintenance is a breeze. I'm not familiar with PE's other markers, but based on their reputation for quality products, they have definitely delivered with the MG100. The DAM magazines are very solid and protect the paint really well with the door that closes over the top. I did find the maintenance on these magazines a little tedious, and yeah, the glass reinforced nylon frame of the marker doesn't have the same feel as the all aluminum AR styled markers, but this one still rips though!
MCS 468:
Not a whole lot to say about this one, as it's my least favorite of the three. Similar to the T15, in that it's a split receiver AR style marker. Only a couple parts need oil, so it's very easy to maintain. I went crazy trying to get this thing to shoot First Strike reliably, though. Required way too much modding to get it working the way I wanted, and ultimately, I never really got there with this one. The magazines are easy tom maintain, but have far too many tiny parts/springs that can get lost. On the plus side, if you're only shooting roundball, then I would definitely recommend the 468.
Tippmann TMC:
I have no personal experience with this one, but there's tons of positive reviews on this bad boy. A good cheaper alternative to everything I just listed. The magazines are also cheaper than all other brands. Requires some serious modding to shoot First Strikes though, which is the reason I've avoided it. In my opinion, First Strikes are a game changer.
There's my thoughts on MagFed markers, I'll make another post to talk more about other gear.
